From staff reports
RENO, Nev. | Jordan Oliver won the 103-pound title that eluded him last year to help Easton Area High School's
wrestling team finish second Tuesday in the 10th annual Reno Tournament of Champions.
Oliver defeated Boris Novachkov, of Freemont, Calif., 8-4. The sophomore, ranked third in the nation by Amateur
Wrestling News, recorded three takedowns of Novachkov, ranked No. 2, to take a quick 6-2 lead heading into the
second period.
Novachkov cut the lead to 6-4 after an escape to start the third and a stall point with 30 seconds left in the
bout. Oliver then sealed the win with a takedown at the buzzer.
Oliver (13-0), who is Easton's 15th Reno champion, lost 10-7 to Nikko Triggas of Campolindo, Calif., in last year's
103-pound final.
Defending Reno champion Easton was denied its third team championship in four years. The Red Rovers, who also won
titles in 1995, 2001 and 2002, finished eight points behind first-place Alamosa, Colo. (159.5 to 151.5).
Other Red Rovers placing included senior Russ Souders, who finished fourth at 125, and sophomore Cory Rutt, eighth
at 189.
Souders, making his first Reno appearance, fell 14-2 to Springville's Jason Chamberlain in their third-place bout.
Souders was edged 7-5 by eventual champion Todd Schavrien of Poway in the semifinals.
Colin Dailey finished one round shy of a medal at 152.
Easton returns to action 7:30 p.m. Friday with a big independent meet at Upper Perkiomen.
Upper Perk is ranked seventh in the nation and Easton No. 33 by Amateur Wrestling News.
