FROM STAFF REPORTS
RENO, Nev. | Easton Area High School's wrestling team won its fifth championship Friday night at the 12th annual Reno Tournament of Champions.

The Red Rovers were paced by juniors Jordan Oliver at 119 and Kegan Handlovic at 112, who both finished second.

Easton finished with 202.5 points, easily outdistancing second-place Upper Perkiomen with 156.5. Defending champion Alamosa, County placed fifth with 129. The Red Rovers were second here a year ago.

The Red Rovers also won team titles here in 1995, 2001, 2002, and 2004.

Also winning medals for Easton were junior Colin Dailey, third at 152; freshman Mark Hartenstine, third at 125; senior Ju-Ju Drummond, fifth at 152, and junior Cory Rutt, eighth at 189.

The top three finishers in each weight class earned All-America status.

"As a team, the kids really wrestled well," Red Rovers coach Steve Powell said. "I think every one of our kids won at least one match. It was a great experience."

The feature match of the evening came in the 119-ound final where Oliver, a PIAA Class AAA champion at 103 last winter, squared off against Nikko Triggas of Campolindo, Calif. Oliver broke through with a pair of takedowns, but Triggas countered with two takedowns of his own to tie the match 4-4.

Triggas pulled out a 7-4 victory with a three-point nearfall late in the third period to become a three-time Reno champion.

"We wanted our individuals to shine, also," Powell said. "Oliver was in a loaded weight class. He wrestled a real strong match."

Handlovic, unseeded going into the tournament, cruised to the finals with a 9-4 semifinal victory over David Klingsheim of Liberty, Calif. Overall, Handlovic defeated four seeded wrestlers to reach to the finals.

Handlovic's opponent in the finals, Thomas Williams of South Hills, Calif., used a pair of takedowns and a three-point nearfall to score a 12-4 victory.

"That was a good experience for (Handlovic)," Powell said. "He's been improving by leaps and bounds."

Northwestern, out of the Colonial League, finished sixth with 128 points in the 90-team field. Pleasant Valley of the Mountain Valley Conference was 20th with 90 points.
